Does this look familiar? PLEASE say it does because then I wouldn’t feel so alone in this crazy month of December!!!! Where to start? What collection to put out first? Why oh WHY do I have so many decorations????!!!!!!
This time of year I have so much on my plate that I don’t even know where to start. After getting out all the Christmas boxes, we started with the lights. I did the tree while my daughter checked for strands that lit up and my son wrapped the front door garland with lights. (Yes! I let the kids help! More like I NEEEEEDED the kids to help! We’re on a time-crunch here peeps!) And then I froze.
I kind of like the simplicity of it. I grabbed our traditional red tree skirt and put it around the bottom and it just didn’t feel right. What’s wrong with me?! I LOVE red! And I do have some red in my accent chairs in this room but overall, I like the soft, light quality of the room. I don’t think I want to add red into this room this season. (Open mouth, shocked face!) But I may want to add it in other areas of the house. We’ll see…
Here’s the entry at it’s current state. (I still need to add greenery, change out the back picture, etc.) Don’t you like the checked lampshade that doesn’t work for this lamp base?! So bummed. But (aah ha, lightbulb moment), it might be the starting point for my son’s room redesign. I presented it to him last night at bedtime and he approved. Yahoo! Let’s see where that leads us in the new year!
Now, to answer the question posed before on what collection to put out first? Well, as you saw above, the Santa pictures of course!!!
Oh those cherub faces. I just love this tradition. Next to gingerbread houses, it’s one of my favorites!
Back to the mess… I think I’ve decided simple is what is going to work for me and my family this year. Not every decoration we have needs to go out. Not every vintage find has to be on display. Clean. Simple. Elegant is what is going to drive the rest of my “decking the halls” this season. I think it will bring joy and peace to our family, to our holiday spirit which is exactly what we need right now.
Don’t get me wrong…there’ll still be some details thrown in but overall, the “theme” will be simple and elegant. 😉
I hope you all are able to get thru the piles and bring happiness and balance to your homes as well.
Happy decking the halls to you all!
xo, Melissa
Santa pics were the first thing I put out too Melissa! Simplicity is good. My boxes have been sitting in the garage since Sunday. Just can’t bring myself to unload them! 😉
