A Stinky Review

IMG_8006

I have been trying to find a deodorant that works for me for YEARS!  My goal is to smell fresh but I also don’t want to have those ugly underarm circles. Deodorants help you smell good and antiperspirants keep the sweat away.  What’s a girl to do?  I will deal with underarm circles IF it means saving myself from being exposed to potentially problematic ingredients.  So, maybe I should rephrase that: my goal is to smell fresh and not expose myself to potentially problematic ingredients.  With that as my goal, I have been trying natural deodorants for years now and these are the top contenders!

Schmidt’s

Schmidt’s was the first natural deodorant I ever tried.  When applying it, you have to hold it in place under your arm against your skin, wait a few seconds for it to “heat up” and then you can rub it on.  I tried all the fragrances and Rose + Vanilla was my favorite for a while.  BUT…I still didn’t love it.  AND, I am too impatient to wait the 10+ seconds to roll on my deodeo in the am and the bumpy, hard texture would irritate my sensative, soft skin of my armpits.  We live in a fast paced world.  But, if you don’t mind waiting, singing a little ditty, while waiting for your deodeo to heat up, then go for it! Price: $6.99

Native

This product I LOOOOOOOOVE!  I ordered a travel sample pack of their most popular scents from nativecos.com many a moons ago, before it was even available at Target.  This was a great way to try out the product and you get to have fun sampling!  Plus, after sniffing all the samples, you then have multiple travel size deodorants to pack for your vacations.  My favorite scent is Lilac & White tea but  Coconut & Vanilla also sounds intriguing! Price: $11.99 (Subscription on their website for $10, 10% off order with code: 10today)

Clinical Strength

I know, I know!  This Clinical Strength andiperspirant has aluminum and all the BADNESS in it.  My philosophy is my “daily” is a natural deodorant, but for the days I am going to be in sweltering heat, such as when I traveled to New Orleans with my college girlfriends and we were going to be in humid, hot weather, this is what I wear.  My philosophy: less use = lower risk.  This product doesn’t irritate, the smell is fresh, and I only use it when I really need the extra protection.  Price: $7.99

Smartypits

OK.  First of all, how adorable is that name?!!!  And then you see the packaging…and who isn’t a sucker for pretty packaging?  Reading further: “your purchase helps save lives”?!!! What WHAAAAT?!!!   $0.30 of every stick purchased goes to breast cancer research and survivor support.  How great is that?!

With all of this going for it, I am wondering: how well does this stuff work?  And I can honestly say, Spartypits is the reason I am even writing this article.  I am not a product pusher (this is my first ever beauty product post!) but when I find something I LOVE, I want to share it with the world!

I subscribe to Grove Collaborative and this little product popped up as one of their new items.  I said, “What the heck?” and I threw it (virtually) into that shopping cart and tried it for the first time last month.  It is everything and more!  It is a prebiotic which takes the existing good bacteria on your skin to fight odor causing bacteria. Here’s a more scientific breakdown on the Smartypits blog.  The sweet orange bergamot scent is delicious without being overpowering, the texture is similar to Native, and I have not had a sweat issue since wearing it!  The big test will be when our days hit 80 degrees but for now, I am in love with this product! Price: $9.99
