Eastside 20th: The Kitchen Final Selections

Here we go! We made final decisions on each of the kitchen products. Fantastic! Just order everything and we wait until the UPS truck comes to the house in a week, right?! Not so fast, Charlie!

Product List

Below are the products we chose, why we chose them and possibly some “hick-ups” along the way.

Pendant Light

We selected the Pottery Barn Schoolhouse Glass pole pendant in Brass. We felt it gave some sculptural interest to the space but didn’t block your eye from traveling all the way to the back wall. We want to create something beautiful and sculptural in the middle of the room but if the pendants were solid, it would create a visual wall and make the room feel smaller than it is. We went with Brass, a warm metal that compliments the warmth of the wood cabinets nicely.

Sink Light

Hiccup number 1. We fell in LOVE with the Nolan light fixture from Pottery Barn, but when we went to go order, the Brass option was no longer available! NOOOO!!! What bad luck!

I immediately started searching for a replacement. Not exactly like our original but very similar, I found this cutie at Rejuvenation called the Crawford.

Backsplash

To mimic the length of the island and room, we went with an elongated subway tile by Bedrosian called Zenia in Milky Way. A traditional subway tile is 3×6. This one measures 2.5″ x 9″. Hick-up #2, the client went to order and they were on BACK ORDER for 3-4 MONTHS! NOOOOO!!!! The client went to CFM again, to find something similar and she did. On order and should arrive in 3 biz days.

Grout

Grout is a very personal decision. Some people like high contrast, to create an overall pattern and texture to the wall. Others like the tile to be more subdued and subtle. Can you guess what direction this homeowner went with? If you guessed subtle and subdued, you are CORRECT! We chose snow white which is not bright white but a little creamy to coordinate with the tile and trim.

Countertops

As stated many many times before, I love quartz for your countertop choice. And I rarely veer from white. In this case, we went with a white that had light texture. And just like any project, some products don’t always work based on some constraints. Hiccup number three. For this project, the General Contractor is working with a specific slab vender, Keystone Granite in Salem Oregon. Unfortunately, they don’t have the two slabs we recommended for the project. But, based on the samples I shared with my client, they were able to find something similar. In this case, they selected Q Quartz Calacatta Botanical, because it is similar to what I had presented.

Cabinet Hardware

As suggested to the client in the previous post (here), a beautiful aged brass or oil-rubbed bronze/black would both look stunning with a white oak cabinet. We may have gone subtle with the grout choice, but for the hardware we went with oil-rubbed bronze from Rejuvenation. The pulls are the Mission line, 4″ skinny, and the knobs are the Massey line.

Faucet

For the final decision, we went with the Delta single handle gooseneck faucet. I love a gooseneck pull-down for the structure of it and the function. Form and function. Always a great choice. Plus, plumbers always like Delta because they all have the same connector or base (don’t quote me…my plumbing vocab is not great! But I have been told that plumbers have less problems with Delta products).

What’s next?

Everything is on order! Cabinets are going in this week. Now we just wait for the puzzle pieces to be put together, one by one. Cabinets, countertops, coating of cabinets, electrical, hardware install, appliance install, plumbing, … all this leads to reveal day!

Oh! You want to see the bathroom we designed, don’t you?! I’ll share those deets NEXT!

Stay tuned!
