Eastside 20th: Kitchen & Extras Reveal

If you’ve been following along on the blog, you’ve seen our step-by-step process of re-modeling the Eastside 20th home. Starting with the kitchen brainstorm (here) to the product selection (here).

And NOW! We are ready to share with you the FINAL REVEAL!!!!!

The Kitchen Reveal

The original Eastside 20th kitchen had SO MUCH character. (Before photos here) Very DATED character. It was in desperate need of a refresh to accommodate this growing family (growing in age, not number of bodies 🙂 to clarify!). By using light wood cabinets, traditional subway tiles, and brass accents, the design felt new but classic to the style of the home.

The Backsplash & Counters

Let’s start with the backsplash and counters, because the first rule of designing a kitchen is the backsplash and counters must feel married. White quartz countertops paired with an elongated white subway tile, makes the perfect combination for a timeless home.

The Cabinets

White cabinets are always classic – it’s difficult to find a newly built kitchen that DOESN’T have white cabinets! So having a client that wanted something different was really refreshing! For this space, we knew we wanted to preserve some of the home’s older charm. So, these light oak cabinets do just that.

To break up the cabinetry, the builder installed 2 open shelves to use as display areas to add interest and a personal touch. This is the perfect place to display family heirloom dishes, framed photos, and cookbooks all bringing that personal touch to the space.

The Hood

I love how this hood ties all the kitchen’s colors together: the white paint to match the backsplash and pantry closet, and the wooden trim to match the cabinets.

Faucet, Sink, & Hardware

We kept the hardware simple: black drawer pulls and knobs from Rejuvenation, and a stainless steel faucet paired with that giant farmhouse sink.

Lighting

Pottery Barn came through for all our lighting. The overhead, semi-flush sink light, the 3 island pendants and the dining room chandelier were all from Pottery Barn. Our goal was simple and classic. The kitchen lights we went with a warm brass to coordinate with the warmth of the wood of the cabinets.

The island lights, I wanted to go as big as we could but having the shade glass so as to not obstruct your view, making the space feel as open a possible.

The Entryway & Dining Lighting

In addition to remodeling the kitchen, we decided to give the entryway a little face lift. Originally, there was a pass-through hallway to the left of the stairs. The builder closed this off in order to gain another storage closet on the other side of the wall. Now we have a lovely landing with a welcoming wall. Circle mirror, simple craftsman entry table with lamp makes this entry feel more inviting to guests who enter into the home.

Are we keeping that?

If you remember me sharing my initial visit to this home, you will recall I was just about to leave when I looked up and pointed at the light fixture (Before, it was a brass “boob” light) asking if we wanted to change this light out? (Praying the answer was YES!). You can read more about that here.

My client then brought me back into the house and said, “Oh YES! We also want to replace this brass chandelier with something more current.” (Before photos here). This pendant light alone makes the space feel SO much more updated and polished, and adds contrast to the oak floors and white walls that you see upon entering the house.

For the dining room, we went with a black metal, 6 candle-armed chandelier based on the style of the home and the new kitchen. It feels old but fits perfectly into this newly painted room. We replaced the rug with another Ruggable, and plan to update the table and chairs in the near future.

Up next: the BATHROOM! Stay tuned for the final reveal of the main floor bathroom for this Eastside family home! (bathroom remodel details here)!

Thanks for sticking along for this series! Hope you enjoy watching us transform this home with just a few key decisions to brighten and freshen up this kitchen. Sometimes, it’s fun to see all the steps that were taken to achieve a beautiful result!
